This program is designed for New Graduate Registered Nurses with less than one year experience. You will receive hands-on training designed to give you the experience and confidence you need to begin your nursing career. Our comprehensive Transition to Practice Program includes experiential learning modalities, so you can assimilate and apply clinical theory and concepts to real-world bedside practice. Through reflective and experiential learning, you will strengthen your clinical decision making, improve your skills and knowledge, and gain equipment expertise so you can walk into your nursing career with confidence.
New graduate nurses are hired into the institution in cohorts that attend orientation together. Cohorts will also attend a series of educational days and activities to learn, find social support and participate in relevant discussions. Residents attend a weeklong hospital orientation, followed by a telemetry course. You will work your next 4 weeks in the clinical environment doing 8-hour, Monday-through-Friday days, to get maximum exposure to the environment, colleagues, and patient populations.
If you’re an experienced nurse interested in transitioning to a specialty practice, we recognize that more than just a generic orientation is needed. As an experienced nurse in our Transition Residency, you will be prepared to work in a specialty unit outside of your discipline, gaining the skills needed to function independently and competently in specialty nursing practice. And, you will earn salary and benefits while you learn. We ensure the success of the transitioning RN through a robust program as well as support from preceptors, mentors, and peers.
The program is open to full-time employees prepared with a bachelor’s of nursing and a minimum of three years of nursing experience at BMC.
BMC provides many simulation based programs that allow staff to sharpen their skills and improve team functioning. This program offers team members the opportunity to practice together, reflect on performance, and identify both individual and team performance gaps.
